ABOUT MAKIN GROCERIES
About the Artist - Jerry Christopher
Jerry's love of music and especially the guitar began as a kid watching and listening to his father playing
the guitar around the house, he would think as he watched his father perform "boy I wish I could play like that".
Recognizing Jerry's desire, his dad started to teach him how to play the guitar. Soon, Jerry began to study guitar
with master guitarist Joe Sgro and musical arranging with Adolph Sondole. At the age of fifteen Jerry hooked up
with a local jazz trio, a gig that lasted two years and at seventeen he joined a rock band and toured the United
States for five years. At this point in his life and tired of being on the road, Jerry decided that it was time
to stay at home and focus his career right here in New Orleans. Jerry got a gig at a local New Orleans night
club and for over five years performed there as the bands lead guitarist and arranger. In a musical review Jerry Brock a well known New Orleans music critic said that Jerry Christopher is New Orleans's supreme guitarist.
Dalt Wonk, music critic for Gambit Weekly, said that Jerry's band is phenomenal.
Jerry's desire to stay in New Orleans and specialize in the sounds of New Orleans led him into the convention
business and within a few months he and his first band "The Big Easy Jazz Band" had earned a reputation of
professionalism, reliability and of providing music that always captures the feel mood and unique flavor of
New Orleans, music that is always right and specifically designed to meet the needs of his clients special event.
Recognizing that the convention business in New Orleans was lacking a variety band, Jerry decided to fill that need, he named that band "Makin' Groceries." This familiar New Orleans phrase captures the essence of the bands
music. Makin' Groceries performs funky style New Orleans music guaranteed to get the crowd on the dance floor,
and not only that, the band performs all styles of dance music. For dinner banquets, the soft background cool jazz
performed by Makin' Groceries sets the perfect atmosphere.
